| WHAT? |
Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference
Day is a national day of volunteering and helping others in the
community-- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. The
United Way of Calvert County (UWCC) invites you to partner with
us in making a difference. |
| WHEN? |
Saturday, October 27, 2007 (If you cannot participate on Saturday
for religious reasons, you may do your project on Sunday, October
28.) |
| WHO? |
The UWCC, along with local schools, youth groups, and anyone
else in the community that would like to participate. |
| HOW? |
In partnership with the UWCC, organize a group of people at
your school, church, youth group, anywhere. Pick a team leader,
and come up with a way to serve our community on Make A Difference
Day. If you have trouble figuring out what to do, feel free to
contact Anjelica Hill at the UWCC for ideas. Once you have your
plan, fill out the attached Project Entry Form and send it back
to the UWCC. You will be contacted after your plan has been received
and reviewed. |
| AWARDS? |
Paul Newman will donate $10,000 each to 10 selected projects.
These 10 honorees, plus hundreds of local honorees, will be spotlighted
in an April 2007 issue, coinciding with National Volunteer week.
If awarded, the UWCC will distribute funds to meet critical needs
in Calvert County. |
If
you need more than one day for your project, still plan to do a
good part of your volunteering on Make A Difference Day. For example,
if you are rebuilding a community soup kitchen, you may have to
do some wiring the week before or some painting the week after,
but a significant part of the construction needs to take place on
that Saturday.
If your volunteers are together only Monday-Friday (such as schools
and workplaces), still plan to do a good part of your volunteering
on Make A Difference Day. For example, if students collect food
for the homeless during the school week, get a special group of
students and teachers together on Saturday to hand-deliver the food
to homeless people or a shelter. If it rains or snows, Make A Difference
Day goes on. If your project is outdoors, have a contingency plan,
or forge ahead.
If we are selected to receive an award, we must sign releases. We
might also participate in an awards ceremony.
