The United Way of Calvert County (410-286-0100) was incorporated in 1980 to respond to the human service needs of Calvert County residents. Initially, 5 member agencies were funded with approximately $5,000 in contributions. Since that time, United Way has evolved from primarily a fund distribution organization to a community building partner.

The United Way of Calvert County funds human needs services, including food, shelter, clothing, rehabilitation, support for the developmentally disabled, abuse prevention, family support, promoting self-sufficiency and emergency needs. UWCC also operates its own Volunteer Resource Center and Success By 6® initiative.

The Volunteer Resource Center has expanded its services to youth by forming a partnership with the United Youth Council. A council that is devoted to showing how a group of youth can make changes for those in need in their community

In all, UWCC financially supports 35 diverse human service agencies and programs.

United Way provides oversight and support of its member agencies. Agencies apply annually for United Way funds and applications are reviewed to make sure they are fiscally well managed and that the programs are effectively meeting community needs.
