Event Description:
Mardi Gras is an annual fundraiser for the United Way of Calvert County. It is a formal gala complete with a rousing cocktail reception, authentic cuisine, live New Orleans-style performers, a Bourbon Street silent auction, a king and queen crowning ceremony, a best costume and mask contest, and live Cajun style music by the Junkyard Saints.
Cause:
Proceeds will be invested in 42 programs that improve lives and create lasting changes in Calvert County. United Way is working to impact the community in three critical areas of need by: Building bridges to success for our children, meeting basic human needs and fostering family health and safety.
King and Queen Competition:
Three couples will vie for the title of King and Queen of Mardi Gras by soliciting votes, each $1.00. The couple with the most votes will win the title, along with the crown jewels and prized robes. The couple will be crowned at the Mardi Gras event on March 1, 2008.
Candidate Couples are given tools and support from the United Way to help them with their campaign. The competition emphasizes FUN!
