United Way & Partners Give Away FREE Cards to Reduce Prescription Costs for Uninsured
More than one out of every five families in the United States has no prescription drug coverage. The cost of prescription drugs can cause financial hardship, especially to the elderly and the poor. United Way of Calvert County announces a monumental effort to address this pressing dilemma with the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards, FREE cards that provide an average savings of 20% or more on prescriptions. United Way of Calvert County has already distributed over 3,000 cards to community agencies and local pharmacies. FamilyWize is a national community service partnership with United Way, established to reduce prescription drug costs by $100 million in five years. "Healthcare costs are one of the top concerns for people in our community,” says United Way of Calvert County Executive Director Kelly Chambers. “We hope the entire community will join us in spreading the word about the FamilyWise prescription drug discount cards, so that everyone without prescription drug coverage takes advantage of this tremendous savings.” FamilyWise prescription drug discount cards are available from United Way of Calvert County, its partner agencies and select pharmacies in Calvert County. Cards are available only to individuals or families without prescription drug coverage, but a single card can be used for any prescription and for everyone in the family. There is no income limit, age requirement, eligibility or registration required. “We are grateful for the support of the United Way agencies, the Department of Social Services, and the 12 participating pharmacies in Calvert County,” says Chambers. “They will play a significant part in reducing the cost of medicine for the children, families and individuals in our community who struggle to make ends meet.” To obtain a FamilyWise card, visit one of the following pharmacies in Calvert County: Calvert Arundel Pharmacy, Chesapeake Care Drug, CVS, Giant, K-Mart, Eckerd, Safeway, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, and Whitesell.
