End Hunger in Calvert
United Way partner agencies, Chesapeake Cares Food Pantry and Catholic Charities, along with numerous area churches and food pantries bring awareness to the hunger problem in our community every October. This extraordinary effort brings in hundreds of thousands of pounds of food, and unites our community around an important cause. Learn more about End Hunger and get involved!
Since the fall of 2007, UWCC has given support to Safe Nights, a new program in Calvert County that provides emergency shelter during the harsh winter months. Currently, UWCC serves on the Safe Nights Board, and supports their efforts to get established. Safe Nights coordinates over 30 local church congregations in providing host shelters, giving the homeless a warm bed and three nutritious meals in a safe environment. Individuals can register at Catholic Charities. Walk-ins are welcome from 9 am to 11:30 am or 1 pm to 3:30 pm on weekdays. For more information, e-mail Safenights.
