211 Maryland United Way of Calvert County (UWCC)advocates locally for 2-1-1 Maryland. The 2-1-1 hotline connects individuals to important community health and human service resources statewide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in over 150 languages. Individuals can dial the 2-1-1 call center on their telephone or go online to access services.
Family Wize Partnership UWCC partners with FamilyWize to reduce the cost of medicine for families living in our community. FamilyWize develops a FREE and easy-to-use prescription discount card that UWCC promotes and distributes to local agencies, physicians, hospitals and pharmacies. In 2008-09, UWCC helped residents reduce their costs for medicine by over $270,000, making Calvert County the highest savings in the state. End Hunger in Calvert United Way partner agencies, Chesapeake Cares Food Pantry and Catholic Charities, along with numerous area churches and food pantries bring awareness to the hunger problem in our community every October. This extraordinary effort brings in hundreds of thousands of pounds of food, and unites our community around an important cause. Learn more about End Hunger and get involved!
Safe Nights Since the fall of 2007, UWCC has given support to Safe Nights, a new program in Calvert County that provides emergency shelter during the harsh winter months. Currently, UWCC serves on the Safe Nights Board, and supports their efforts to get established. Safe Nights coordinates over 30 local church congregations in providing host shelters, giving the homeless a warm bed and three nutritious meals in a safe environment. Calvert County Mentoring Partnership UWCC serves as an active member of the Calvert County Mentoring Partnership (CCMP), advocating for youth, and promoting awareness of mentoring opportunities in our community.
