For 32 years United Way of Calvert County has raised over 14 million dollars to give back to nonprofit organizations in Calvert County. Whether helping grassroots programs like Project ECHO get established or promoting the value of evidence-based programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way's focus has always been on meeting a community need in Calvert County. "I am proud to be a board member of the United Way of Calvert County and see the positive impact we have on our community," says Board Chair Lt. Colonel Tom Hejl. In 2012, United Way is bringing together local business leaders and longtime supporters to champion real change by leading their Million Dollar Milestone Campaign.
"It has been a long time dream to reach a million dollars and I believe that if we could reach this goal, we could expand the already successful programs we have and make a broad impact on some of the issues that are plaguing our community," says President and CEO Kelly Chambers
For the past several years, United Way of Calvert County has been $150,000 shy of one million dollars in annual revenue. The Million Dollar Milestone "Champions" will strive to meet that target in two years by developing new fundraising and targeted marketing strategies that convey United Way's strategic focus on improving education, income and health.
"United Way of Calvert County is one of the finest organizations I have had the pleasure of being involved with. Their ability to raise funds to support only local needs has been very good in the past, but now we are looking to step up our efforts and reach a milestone," says Hejl.
United Way has enlisted the expertise of the following "Champions" led by Hejl and former Chair Carrie Polk of Carrie Polk Insurance and Investments: Keely Tolley of REMAX 100 in Dunkirk, Kelly McConkey of Kelly McConkey's Tree & Landscaping, Pat Broach of Bank of America, Jackie Martin of Jacqueline Morgan Day Spa, Brian Mayer of Envoy Mortgage, Jan Lomax of PNC Bank, Jonna Jones of SMECO, Jennie Garofalo of American Mortgage Professionals and Vicky Karol of CCPS Board of Education.
