Day of Caring, a county-wide event, inspires 300 volunteers annually to get involved in a day of service to their community. United Way of Calvert County is seeking project submissions from local nonprofit organizations for Day of Caring, scheduled for Wednesday, September 12, 2012.
For the past 17 years, local companies have given their employees a day off to help local nonprofits with special projects that meet a need. "For a person giving to United Way, it's a great opportunity to see how their donation is making a difference." says, Kelly Chambers, President and CEO of United Way of Calvert County. Examples of past projects include playing games with the elderly, assembling and organizing supplies at a local pantry, or sprucing up the grounds of a group home.
For this year's event, United Way of Calvert County is opening the application process up to all local 501(c)3 organizations that are focused on meeting an education, income or health related need in Calvert County. In order to be eligible, projects must be based in Calvert County, and capable of completion on September 12, from the hours of 8 am to 4 pm. There are a maximum number of projects allowed based on expected volunteer attendance, so organizations are encouraged to submit their project on or before the deadline, Thursday, June 28. Final project approval is based upon a review by United Way staff.
To submit your project, get your project guidebook and forms at www.unitedwaycalvert.org or e-mail Day of Caring Coordinator, Sherri Gedridge at uwadmin@unitedwaycalvert.org. If you have any questions, call (410) 286-0100.
