Meet the 2016 Mardi Gras Court

Meet the members of our 2016 Mardi Gras Court! These thoughtful and generous citizens of Calvert County are looking to give back to their community by competing for the coveted titles of Mardi Gras King & Queen. Each candidate is challenged to raise at least $10,000 in their campaign to help United Way of Calvert County meet its overall $100,000 goal. The winning candidates will be crowned at the gala on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Annmarie Garden.

Candidates for Queen

Delaney Burgess of Huntingtown

Delaney Burgess is a Real Estate Assistant at Re/Max One. She has been a regular volunteer with Christmas in April and plans to help feed the hungry this Thanksgiving season. In her spare time Delaney enjoys doing make up, shopping and cooking. Delaney believes that her campaign for Queen is the perfect opportunity to engage fellow young professionals in giving back to the community. “You are never too young to help out your community,” Delaney says. “I feel extremely blessed to be a part of this.”

Belinda Denton of Lusby

Belinda Denton is a Business Service Representative at the Tri-County Council of Southern Maryland. She is a Calvert County Chamber of Commerce Board Member and a volunteer with Farming4Hunger. Her hobbies include cooking, reading fishing and sailing. Belinda cares deeply about this area and the welfare of the residents, businesses and community as a whole. She considers herself to be a Calvert County Ambassador and believes “anything is possible when a community comes together.”

Misty Gibson of Huntingtown

Misty Gibson is the owner of Tint Works Plus. Misty has been a member of the Calvert County Medic Unit, she has been involved with Relay for Life and is a supporter of the Humane Society of Calvert County. Misty likes to spend time with her family, including her dogs and she enjoys helping others. According to Misty, “Queen in my book is just a crown.” She says the true prize in this race is the opportunity to improve her community.

Candidates for King

Mark Frisco of Huntingtown

Mark Frisco is a Real Estate Agent at Century 21 New Millennium. He is a member of the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Committee. Mark spends his free time boating, fishing and attending car shows. If crowned King, Mark hopes to encourage local business owners to increase their involvement in the community. He aims to inspire others to participate in local politics, community events and volunteering with nonprofits.

Jeff Gay of Port Republic

Jeff Gay is the Branch Manager at Southern Trust Mortgage. He is involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. Jeff enjoys golfing and spending time with his family. As a candidate, Jeff says he wants to raise the most money he can for United Way and that he would do anything he could to make a difference in someone’s life.

James Hitchcock of Owings

James Hitchcock is the owner of Hitchcock Autoworks. He regularly coordinates live music shows and supports other events to benefit local nonprofits. James enjoys car shows and attending races at local drag strips. James hopes that his Mardi Gras campaign will become a positive example for the younger generation, inspiring them to create change in the world.
